Interview with Peter Zühlsdorff, CEO of Duales System Deutschland AG (The Green Dot)
Mr Zühlsdorff, as the Managing Partner of the German Industry Holding (Deutsche Industrie-Holding, DIH), CEO of Duales System Deutschland AG and member of numerous supervisory boards and advisory committees, you are well acquainted with Germany as a business and investment location. Why do you think our country needs the “Germany – Land of Ideas” initiative?
The “Germany – Land of Ideas” initiative is intended to contribute to our county’s economic revival and thus to the creation of new jobs. It has two main objectives: telling the citizens of this country that it is worthwhile living and working in this country, and promoting our country’s innovativeness and productivity.
While you’re familiar with the German commercial landscape, you’re also at home on the international stage. Why is Germany viewed more positively abroad as a business and investment location than at home?
In Germany we have a high standard of living and a stable political environment. In addition we can draw on a highly developed economy with the success factors quality, efficiency and innovativeness. These qualities are recognised and acknowledged abroad. We need to be more aware of that here at home.
What sort of impetus do you expect from the “Germany – Land of Ideas” initiative for Germany as a business and innovation location?
We must compete in the global economy and we can win.
The initiative seeks to communicate a positive image of Germany abroad. Which characteristics do you think should be emphasised?
I believe our zest for life, motivation, competitiveness, reliability and innovativeness are typical German qualities that we can promote abroad. We can show that we are proud of our country.
What do you believe are the three most important German innovations?
In my opinion these are the petrol and diesel engine, antibiotics and data processing.
