In this event series, scheduled to run for three years, Germany presents itself in all its cultural, economic, scientific and social diversity in China’s cities and provinces. ‘Germany and China – Moving Ahead Together’ is under the joint patronage of Germany’s federal president Horst Köhler and China’s president Hu Jintao.
The most wide-ranging event series ever implemented by Germany abroad is under the lead management of the Foreign Office, which is cooperating with the Goethe Institute, the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA) and the Marketing für Deutschland GmbH, along with ‘Official Partners’ Allianz, BASF, Daimler, Deutsche Bank, DHL and Siemens. German chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel opened the event series on 27 August 2007 in Beijing.
Through ‘Germany and China – Moving Ahead Together’, Germany presents business-related, cultural and social projects under the overall heading ‘Cities in Motion’. Its central themes take their cue from the motto of the EXPO 2010, ‘Better City – Better Life’, and deal with urbanisation and sustainable urban development. The event series will culminate in the Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
