In cooperation with
Germany is and always has been the Land of Ideas. Inventors, artists, philosophers, scientists and entrepreneurs have made it thus over the centuries. In a nationwide competition a total of “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas” were selected and presented to the public, both national and international.

The concept “Landmarks in the Land of Ideas” is not to be understood just in terms of villages and cities in the geographical or political sense. A “Landmark in the Land of Ideas” means a place where ideas emerge are developed and promoted, as well as places where great inventions and ideas are preserved and commemorated.
Until 30th of September 2005 more than 1200 institutions, private and public, cultural and ecclesiastical, memorial places, museums, social projects, companies, scientific research centres or universities applied for the title.
Chairperson of the jury and Director General of the Dresden National Art Collection, Prof. Martin Roth and the jury members Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Josef Hackforth, department for physical education, media and communication at the Technical University of Munich, Moritz Müller-Wirth, managing editor of DIE ZEIT, Bernd Rauch, Vice President of Deutscher Sportbund, Irene Schulte-Hillen, Chairperson of the Board of Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, Prof. Dieter Stolte, President of the association of friends of German Historical Museum and Dr. Klaus Winker, Director Press and Media Relations of Deutsche Bank AG honoured 365 of all applicants with the title “Selected Landmark 2006”.
The selection reflects the diversity of Germany’s innovative potential in terms of approaches and origins. In 2006 one specific day is assigned to each selected place, when it will present itself and its idea to the public. This unprecedented series of events turns Germany the Land of Ideas into a unique experience.
The project is realized in cooperation with Deutsche Bank AG. Each “Landmark” can be found here on this website and will be presented in the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT as well as other media. Together with the DuMont publishing house the Land of Ideas tour guide has been developed, inviting readers to explore the Land of Ideas.
