Event: Celtic festival in Kelheim

Bavaria in days gone by

Through the mighty gates of the late Celtic settlement, visitors enter the world of our ancestors. At the Archa?ologiepark Altmühltal they can explore tombs from the Bronze and Iron Ages, as well as Celtic fortifications. The prehistoric monuments were discovered during excavations for the Main-Danube Canal and were reconstructed and opened to the public in a large- scale project. During a trial phase, hundreds of visitors have already seen what life was like many thousands of years ago. Germany‘s biggest archaeological park is now regularly open to visitors – and all for free! It is set apart from other facilities by its high scientific standards, as well as by its programme. Specially trained guides lead the tours, action days let visitors follow in the footsteps of our ancestors, and excursions tailored to match the curriculum are developed for schools. In addition, lectures and exhibitions provide a glimpse of life in days gone by.
