The history of the German carrier started on the 6th of January 1926. On this very day the “Deutsche Luft Hansa AG“ was founded by merging “Junkers Luftverkehr AG“ and “Deutschen Aero Lloyd AG“.

On the 1st of May 1926 Lufthansa was the first passenger airline in history to fly at night. Guided by bonfires, the airplane securely found its way from Berlin to Königsberg. The travel time to Moscow was reduced to an impressive 15 hours.

The jet era began with the introduction of the Boeing 707 in 1960. 10 years later the 747 – the Jumbo-Jet – is also part of the Lufthansa fleet. Today the Lufthansa fleet consists of 373 airplanes.

In the year of football 50 of these airplanes will be flying with a “football nose”. “Welcome to Germany” is the message Lufthansa wishes to send to all football fans around the world. The maiden flight of the first decorated airplane brought the football team of “FC Bayern München” to Tokyo. Since 2005 Lufthansa has been “Official Partner of the German National Football Team”. The team as well as the members of the German Football association fly with Lufthansa to their matches in Germany or abroad.

The in-flight entertainment “Magazin on Air“ presents a short film to introduce the land of ideas on intercontinental flights to Germany and welcomes passengers from all over the world to Germany.

As a premium airline, the Lufthansa brand stands for reliability, security, quality and a worldwide network. Furthermore, Lufthansa acts as a strong member of the most success-ful alliance system of the world - Star Alliance. In addition, high class and individualised product and service represent the premium brand Lufthansa.
