German President Horst Köhler presents the associate partner plaque of the initiative “Germany – Land of Ideas” at the World Equestrian Festival
Aachen, 26th August 2005 – The World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen, will become an official associate partner of “Germany – Land of Ideas”.
Federal German President Horst Köhler, patron of the initiative, and the Chief Executive of FC Deutschland GmbH Mike de Vries presented the President of Aachen-Laurensberger Rennvereins e.V. Klaus Pavel with the associate partner plaque in Aachen today.
The World Equestrian Festival is an internationally renowned sporting event, which attracts more than 300,000 German and international visitors and more than 500 journalists every year. “This is an excellent occasion for Germany to prepare itself for its role as a host at the World Equestrian Games 2006 and the World Cup 2006,” explained Mike de Vries. “We must and should take advantage of this opportunity to leave a long-lasting impression and to present Germany in a positive light.”
The President of Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e.V. Klaus Pavel agreed with him: “Germany is and always was a land of great ideas! The World Equestrian Games 2006 are a terrific opportunity to demonstrate how cosmopolitan and innovative Germany is. Together, let us be sympathetic hosts.”
BDI President Jürgen R. Thumann was pleased to see the World Equestrian Games, CHIO Aachen become an associate partner of the Land of Ideas: “When I was still president of the German Equestrian Federation, Consul Klaus Pavel and I raised funds together for the World Equestrian Games in Germany. I am pleased to see that the World Equestrian Games and the Trotting Championship with its seven disciplines has also inspired the Land of Ideas.”
“Germany - Land of Ideas” is a joint image campaign mounted by the German government in conjunction with the business community, represented by the Federation of German Industries (BDI). The aim of the initiative is to present a positive image of Germany at home and abroad.
Lending their special authority to the launching of this cross-party initiative are, on the government side, German Minister of the Interior Otto Schily and, on the side of the German business community, the BDI (Federation of German Industries) Vice President Dr. Michael Rogowski. Patron is the German President, Horst Köhler, who originally coined the phrase “Land of Ideas”. Mike de Vries, Chief Executive Officer of FC Deutschland GmbH, is coordinating the initiative and implementing the planned projects and measures. He is supported by companies participating as part of a licensed partner programme and by other associate partners from the spheres of science, culture and society.
