Full of ideas, future-oriented and committed: These are the characteristics all ‘365 places in the Land of Ideas’ have in common

Berlin, 5th December 2005 – Today (Monday) the winners of the ‘365 places in the Land of Ideas’ competition were introduced to the public by the Federal Minister of the Interior Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble, the initiative ‘Germany – Land of Ideas’ and Deutsche Bank.
The competition ‘365 places in the Land of Ideas’, in which 1200 places took part, is one of five core projects of the campaign ‘Germany – Land of Ideas’ that aims to present Germany as an innovative, modern and cosmopolitan country at home and abroad next year.

Federal Minister Schäuble underlined the importance of the initiative for Germany. “During the World Cup year 2006, the world will be watching Germany attentively. The initiative ‘Germany - Land of Ideas’, with all its projects, very vividly demonstrates what an innovative country we live in. It will greatly help to present Germany as it is: full of ideas, future-oriented and committed”, the Minister of the Interior stated.

On behalf of Deutsche Bank, Jürgen Fitschen, Member of the Group Executive Committee, explained: “The year 2006 will point the way for Germany and send a strong sign to all citizens. Like no other, the project ‘365 places in the Land of Ideas’ embodies Germany’s potential, what it is capable of and how Germany can use these ideas to actively shape the future. Deutsche Bank’s clear commitment to its home country is reflected in the ‘365 places in the Land of Ideas’ project,” Fritschen further commented.

´The project ‘365 places in the Land of Ideas’ is being realised in cooperation with Deutsche Bank, who is also an official partner of ‘Germany- Land of Ideas’. In 2006, every day, from 1st January to 31st December, one of the winners will present itself to the public with an event. Also, in collaboration with DuMont publishing house a Land of Ideas travel guide has been developed that introduces the places and invites the reader to take part in a discovery tour of Germany. The travel guide will be available in bookshops as of 1st January 2006.

Mike de Vries, FC Deutschland Chief Executive and co-ordinator of the initiative views positively the competition and its results so far: “The over 1200 entries submitted reveal the whole bandwidth of committed, creative and innovative people and ideas in Germany.”83 companies, 88 research institutes, schools and universities, 84 museums, 80 initiatives, municipal institutions, clubs and associations, 22 festivals, orchestras and theatres along with eight tourist projects were selected from among all the federal states.”

“Germany – Land of Ideas” is an image initiative mounted jointly by the German government and by the German business community, the latter represented by the Federation of German Industries (BDI). The aim of the initiative is to present Germany at home and abroad as an innovative, cosmopolitan and committed nation. The German President Horst Köhler is the patron of the initiative. It is coordinated by FC Deutschland GmbH’s Chief Executive Officer Mike de Vries. The initiative Land of Ideas is also supported by numerous German companies and co-operation partners from the spheres of science, culture and the wider society. Apart from the ’365 places’ project, the initiative will also implement four other key projects: the Walk of Ideas, media service, fan club and a welcome initiative.
