‘Germany – Land of Ideas’ – good news every day

Media resonance: current tally – 471 million contacts, over 7,000 reports in print, TV and in online media
Berlin, 16.02.06. In the eight months since it started, the landmark project ‘Germany – Land of Ideas’ has managed to consistently develop and has evoked a positive response in the press.
This is the core statement of a media resonance study, which was carried by Ausschnitt Medienbeobachtung. The results were presented by FC Germany GmbH MD, Mike de Vries and Robert Fekl, project manager at Ausschnitt Medienbeobachtung, at a press conference.

Media presence has risen steadily. From the beginning of June 2005 until the end of January 2006 exactly 7,143 reports had appeared across the country in print, TV and online media, which equates to the overall reaching of 471 million contacts. Since the projects ‘FanClub Germany’ and ‘365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas’ were started, a clear upward trend has been discernable.

“The results confirm that the media have responded positively, and there is a predominantly neutral-to-positive quality to the reportage, with the media getting to grips with the content of the project and its initiatives.” This is how Andreas Westermann, Managing Director of Ausschnitt Medienbeobachtung summed it up.

“We can allow ourselves to be very satisfied with the launch phase”, commented FC Germany’s Managing Director, Mike de Vries, in his interim statement. “The media resonance study shows that we’re meeting our commitment to put ‘Germany – Land of Ideas’ up there on the agenda in terms of a content-motivated discussion.”

All five of the project’s core initiatives – as predicted – are either in the planning or implementation stage: the ‘Walk of Ideas’, presents images of Germany as a land of ideas, science, art and culture. The first sculptures will be unveiled shortly.

The ‘365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas’ project – which represents the largest series of events Germany has ever seen – stimulates a huge amount of coverage in regional media. 55,000 copies of the ‘Land of Ideas Travel Guide’ have already been sold. It showcases the winning landmarks, and the guide now counts as one of the top ten best-selling travel guides in Germany. The next print run will amount to 30,000 copies and an English language version will be published at the end of March.

40,000 people have joined ‘FanClub Germany’ in the space of four months.

Since its launch in December 2005 the media service has already been used by over 1,000 (mainly international) journalists.

The international ‘welcome project’ has been organised in close collaboration with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Goethe Institute and German embassies abroad.

Broad support from the ranks of German business has been forthcoming for the project. AUDI AG is the most recent partner to join – one of a total of 23, who together support the project to the tune of 12 million euros.

The initiators
‘Germany – Land of Ideas’ is the combined landmark project of the Federal government and German businesses, who are represented by the Federal Association of German Industry (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie). The project’s goal is to communicate both a picture of Germany as an innovative nation which is open to the world and capable of excitement both in Germany and abroad. The project’s overall boss is the Federal President, Horst Köhler and the coordination of the project is the responsibility of FC Germany GmbH and its Managing Director, Mike de Vries. ‘Land of Ideas’ is supported by countless German companies, as well as associate partners from the worlds of science, culture and public life. The project is implementing five core initiatives: the sculpture park ‘Walk of Ideas’, the series of events surrounding ‘365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas’ competition, the ‘FanClub’, the media service and the welcome project.
