The partnership was officially sealed at the same time as a new research and development centre was opened. On this festive occasion, Mike de Vries, Executive Director of Deutschland GmbH, awarded the certificate and plaque to Dr Arend Oetker, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Schwartauer Werke GmbH&Co.KGaA.
“The ‘Germany – Land of Ideas’ initiative is very happy to count the company Schwartau amongst its sponsors. The new research and development centre, which is being inaugurated today, is an excellent example of the innovative power of a company that is aware of its history and opens up to the ideas of today. It is for good reason that the new centre was built within the walls of a monument-worthy factory building where innovations for the future are tested.” With these words Mike de Vries emphasised the significance of the company amongst the circle of medium-sized sponsors of the initiative.
In the 19th-century building, one of the most modern research and development centres of the food industry has been built where sustainable products are developed, tested and brought to market maturity under modern project management. Schwartauer Werke, founded in 1899, are amongst the best-known and leading food manufacturers in Germany.

About “Germany - Land of Ideas”
“Germany – Land of Ideas“ is a joint location initiative of the Federal Government and German industry, represented by the Federation of German Industry (BDI). The aim of the initiative is to portray Germany, at home and abroad, as an innovative, cosmopolitan and enthusiastic country. The patron of the initiative is the German President Horst Köhler. FC Deutschland GmbH, and its managing director, Mike de Vries, are responsible for coordinating the initiative. “Germany - Land of Ideas” is supported by numerous German companies and cooperation partners from the fields of science, culture and society. The initiative realises six core projects: The sculpture park – “Walk of Ideas”, the event programme – “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas”, the Fan Club, the international media service, the welcoming initiative and, in collaboration with the federal location marketing agency, Invest in Germany, the campaign “Invest in Germany – Land of Ideas”.
