“Invest in Germany – Land of Ideas” awards Investor’s Certificate to ConocoPhillips
Georg Wilhelm Adamowitsch, state secretary in the Ministry of Economics, handed over the award at Fürstenhaus Palace in Hanover. The award honours the global energy corporation’s commitment to Germany as a business location. The corporation is investing several billion euros in Wilhelmshavener Raffinerie Gesellschaft and is currently planning one of the most modern and environmentally friendly plants of this kind in Europe.
The reception constituted the beginning of a series of events to which the government’s business location marketing agency “Invest in Germany” and the initiative “Germany – Land of Ideas” have been inviting potential investors on the occasion of the football World Cup 2006.
Gerhart Maier, Executive Director of Invest in Germany, and Mike de Vries, Executive Director of FC Deutschland GmbH, emphasised that the global corporation ConocoPhillips’ decision to make their investment was sending out a clear signal promoting the quality of Germany as a business location.
“These are precisely the results the business location initiative ‘Germany – Land of Ideas’ wants to achieve in cooperation with ‘Invest in Germany’. It is our purpose to draw attention to Germany as a business location which offers potential investors diverse opportunities,” Mike de Vries said. In his thank-you speech, Mike R. Fretwell pointed out: “I am happy about this award. ConocoPhillips has great trust in Germany as a business location and is enthusiastic about the ‘Germany – Land of Ideas’ initiative.”
During the reception for the members of the delegation, Göksel Güner, Executive Director of the technology company Komatsu Hanomag, as well as Carsten Blotze, Executive Director of Hankook Tire Europe, also reported about their investments in Germany.
About “Germany - Land of Ideas”
“Germany – Land of Ideas“ is a joint location initiative of the Federal Government and German industry, represented by the Federation of German Industry (BDI). The aim of the initiative is to portray Germany, at home and abroad, as an innovative, cosmopolitan and enthusiastic country. The patron of the initiative is the German President Horst Köhler. FC Deutschland GmbH, and its managing director, Mike de Vries, are responsible for coordinating the initiative. “Germany - Land of Ideas” is supported by numerous German companies and cooperation partners from the fields of science, culture and society. The initiative realises six core projects: The sculpture park – “Walk of Ideas”, the event programme – “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas”, the Fan Club, the international media service, the welcoming initiative and, in collaboration with the federal location marketing agency, Invest in Germany, the campaign “Invest in Germany – Land of Ideas”.
