The dismantling of the sculptures commenced with “The Theory of Relativity”, which was situated in the Lustgarten on the Museumsinsel and the “Masterpieces of Music” on the Gendarmenmarkt.
Between March and May 2006, the location initiative “Germany – Land of Ideas” festively unveiled a total of six gigantic sculptures and officially opened them to the public. The “Walk of Ideas” invited people to take a walk through the centre of Berlin. The sculptures interpreted “Innovative Football Boots”, “The Automobile”, “Milestones of Medicine” and “The Theory of Relativity” and aimed to symbolise the Germans’ inventiveness and wealth of ideas. In the coming weeks, they will be gradually dismantled and assigned new vocations.
“The Automobile” has been relocated to Munich Airport for a while. The sculpture will be displayed there until 4 October 2006, and subsequently exhibited at further international locations. To precede the Football World Cup 2001, the football boots will leave the Berlin Spreebogenpark to take off for South Africa. Various discussions are currently being held with interested parties on the future of the rest of the sculptures.
The “Walk of Ideas” was very well received this summer. It not only offered popular photographic images during the Football World Cup, but also contributed to Berlin’s international visitors perceiving Germany as a modern, creative and open country.
