Berlin/Kühlungsborn, 31 May 2007 – During the G8 summit, 22 speakers from the business and academic community will present possible solutions to the challenges of globalisation at the International Media Centre in Kühlungsborn on June 6 - 8, 2007.
The programme under the heading “The Power of Ideas” takes its cue from the items on the summit agenda: energy and climate, growth and Innovation, and opportunities and risks of the global financial markets. The lecture series is hosted by the “Germany – Land of Ideas” initiative in cooperation with “Invest in Germany”, the German government’s location marketing agency.
The speakers will give short presentations about innovations and ideas from research and technology, offering international journalists a thematic background to complement the G8 summit programme. Many of the lectures deal with Africa’s situation in the context of globalisation, and the morning of June 8 (“Africa Day”) will be devoted to this topic. Representatives of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and the United Nations will provide detailed insights into Africa’s role.
The “Power of Ideas” forum aims to provide stimuli and encourage talks and discussions between experts and representatives of the press. The event venue on the grounds of the International Media Centre will also be used for press conferences. For instance, the ‘Global Bioenergy Partnership’, initiated by the G8 summit in Gleneagles 2005 will present its work to the public at 5.00 p.m. on June 7.
