Supermodel Claudia Schiffer promotes Germany

Berlin, July 14, 2006 - ”Invest in Germany - Land of Ideas” in New York after World Cup finale
Germany increasingly attractive for investors
Just days after the soccer World Cup finale in Berlin, host country Germany is showcasing its advantages as a business and high tech location in New York. On Thursday, representatives of “Invest in Germany” and “Germany – Land of Ideas” presented their image campaign in Grand Central Station. At its heart are posters featuring German supermodel Claudia Schiffer which can be admired at the station since the beginning of July. The Düsseldorf-born model touts Germany’s advantages as a place to invest and do business in the poster series, which features slogans like “Get your hands on a German supermodel. See your car dealer.”

Federal Commissioner for Foreign Investment and Lufthansa Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Jürgen Weber, explained at the conference that political and economical reforms are key for Germany’s attractivity for foreign investment. “Our reforms have already made the country highly competitive both in Europe and in the global scene. The combination of the political support and the high level of innovation will take the country even further: Half of Europe’s patents come from Germany, the country is one of the world’s top-research locations with research bodies such as the Max-Planck and Fraunhofer institutes.”

Mike de Vries, managing director of the initiative, said that the initiative’s efforts have already born fruit. During the soccer World Cup, more than 3.5 billion media-contacts were made worldwide, and more than 14,200 articles were published in connection with the “Land of Ideas” initiative in Germany alone. “We have achieved a sustainable success within a short time. We now have a good basis for establishing the brand of ‘Land of Ideas’ throughout the world for the long haul”, said de Vries. Germany’s Federal Government and business community plan to continue their joint image campaign even after the soccer championships, with Germany presenting itself as a “Land of Ideas” in the future as well.

Several recent studies confirm that Germany is becoming ever more attractive in the eyes of the international business community. Only last week, a study by Ernst & Young, the accounting firm, found that the number of foreign investment transactions in Germany doubled over the first six months of 2006. A June survey of 1,000 executives, also by Ernst & Young, found that Germany is the most attractive business location in Europe.
